TRAVELLING TO CRETE

TRAVEL PLANNING VIA AIRLINES

There are many daily flights to and from the island, particularly in summer, from various cities in Europe, and from Athens and Thessaloniki in Greece. While planning the airline trip, one of the details to be noted is the selection of the destination airport in Crete. The island of Crete has 3 airports (Chania, Heraklion, Sitia) . We remind all our participants that our ASTRO SUMMER CAMP 2017 will be held in the city of Heraklion in Crete and it would be suggested to book your flights with destination airport in Heraklion City, namely, Kazantzakis International Airport. Hotel bookings are also suggested to be made in Heraklion City to have a walking distance to our Summer School venue. Let us remind you that, the airports in Chania and Stia in the island are approximately 3 hours of a drive-way distance to Heraklion City.

There is a regular ferryboat service from the port of Piraeus to Heraklion. Ships depart every evening around 8.00 or 8.30 (times vary a little depending on the season) and arrive very early morning (generally between 5.00 or 6.00 am). Let us also remind you that, some ferry lines make stops in various islands on their way to Crete and if by any chace you happen to be in one of the islands like Mykonos and Santorini, you can also book a ferry ticket from those islands and reach to Heraklion, Crete in some hours. Mykonos to Crete is approximately 4-5 hours and Santorini to Crete is approximately 2 hours by ferries.
